Ex-Sandakan Itinerary

Turtle Island / Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre / Sukau Kinabatangan River Cruise / Gomantong Caves & Sightseeing City Tours

Day 1

Arrive Sandakan Airport by morning flight, transfer to jetty for approximately 1 hour boat ride by speedboat to Selingan Island (40km). Check into chalet. Free at leisure to explore island, swim and snorkel. After dinner, wait for signal from the Park Ranger before we proceed in small groups to watch Green Turtle lay eggs on the beach, transplanting of eggs to hatchery and release of baby turtles to the sea. This island is a park conservation area since 1977 and turtles have been nesting here every night throughout the year. Overnight in Twin Share room. Meals: Lunch / Dinner

Day 2

Return to Sandakan by boat and Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. The world famous rehabilitation centre and conservation area. Orphaned and injured Orang Utan are brought to Sepilok to be rehabilitated to return to forest life. Sepilok is a primary lowland forest, a fine showcase of Borneo’s remaining rain forest. Watch the scheduled video documentary show at the Sepilok Information building. The 20 minutes video show will give you an insight of the Orang Utan rehabilitation process and its threats to survival.Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden plank walks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 1000hrs. After yor morning affair with the Orang utan, overland to Sukau / Bilit Kinabatangan River journey approximately take 2hours drive. On arrival proceed for Check in at Bilit Rainforest Lodge. Late afternoon river cruise to explore the lower Kinabatangan River which the second longest river in Malaysia to search some of the 10 species primates of Borneo, such as the odd nose Monkeys of Borneo called Proboscis Monkeys “Nasalis Larvatus” which endemic to Borneo, Long & Pig Tail Macaques, Silver leaf Langur, the Wildman of Borneo or “Orang Utan” and many deferent species of birds. Overnight. Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner

Day 3

Early morning river cruise to the Ox-bow lakes. (Oxbow lake was formed by large meanders of the river that have been cut off from the main channel). The trip will take you to see the riverine forest and the wildlife in the area. The Oriental Darter, Storm’s stork, various species of Hornbills, Kingfishers is common feature. Near the lake you can take a short walk to experience the riverine forest vegetation and see the unique strangling fig trees, lianas or climbers, and other interesting flora. After morning cruise, return to lodge for breakfast. Free at leisure. In late afternoon, proceed for another river cruise in Kinabatangan to search for more wildlife and birds. Overnight. Meals: Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner)

Day 4

After breakfast check out and depart for Gomantong Caves approximately will take 30minutes drive. On arrival, trek fifteen minutes on wooden plank walk to explore the Simut Hitam caves or “the black nest caves “ which famous for edible birds nest for Chinese delicacy. Transfer back to Sandakan town for lunch journey approximately take 1:45minutes. After lunch, Proceed for city tour to explore the Central Market where produce from the hinterland and fresh seafood are on sales . The market is also the focal point for socialising among the locals. Drive up to the Chinese Buddhist Temple “Puuh Jih Shi” located on a hill where you can see the colourful interior decoration of this magnificent temple with a commanding view. Continue the journey to the water village where you can see houses build on stilt above the water occupied by Sea Gypsy’s people or “Bajau laut” Transfer to Sandakan airport for your flight to Kita Kinabalu or Hotel. Meals: Breakfast / Lunch
